Intrigued because of the amazing whole world of science? Want to know the solutions to some everyday questions? The hugely popular Ultimo Science Festival is back! Come and celebrate the wonders of science from 12 – 22 September.

With a jam-packed program fitted to all ages, the Ultimo Science Festival offers hands-on activities, science shows for the kids, fascinating public lectures, exhibitions and behind-the-scenes tours – checking the amazing and intriguing arena of science for those to see. There is a stand up comedy night featuring hilarious science comedians along with a dynamic Arts & Science SoirĂ©e.

For eleven days in September, Ultimo will likely be transformed into an exclusive science hub bubbling with Festival activities along the Powerhouse Museum, ABC Centre, TAFE Ultimo and UTS Buildings.

Highlights with the Ultimo Science Festival are:

EXHIBITIONS

Playing with Light - FREE with Powerhouse Museum admission

Dodge laser beams, create a telescope, freeze your shadow over a wall or paint with infrared light. This exhibition offers full interactive activities that get you into the bright, colourful whole world of light, lasers and lenses.

SHOWS– FREE with Powerhouse admission

Suitable for a long time 5 years or longer, these science shows make everyday things seem extraordinary.

From starting a space colony on Neptune’s largest moon, Triton, to going through the power of steam and electricity or examining the chemistry that occurs in the kitchen exploding volcanoes these demonstrations will amaze, entertain and educate.

UTS Science in Focus public lectures – bookings essential

Leading professors speak on topics starting from forensic science: training police dogs to detect cadavers in homicides and disasters to environmental science research about great white sharks and exploring medical issues like the facts and fictions of obesity.

Big evening of science – ticketed event at Powerhouse Museum
Dare to get out for a nights superstitious supernatural science on Friday 13th?  Socialise with all the weird, wild and astonishing – hear short lectures then test out your perception with science magic, illusions and myth-busters.

The Einstein Lecture 2013 – ticketed event at Powerhouse Museum, for 14 yrs or longer.
The eighth annual Australian Institute of Physics/Powerhouse Museum demonstration, presented by Prof. Benjamin J. Eggleton, will explore the existing output of Einstein’s original work.

BIG FAMILY SCIENCE WEEKEND – FREE with Powerhouse Museum admission
A weekend of science show fun for everyone to enjoy - your complete favourite science shows across 4 stages through the entire Museum exploring things such as the impacts of extreme cold with liquid nitrogen and making your own personal slime.
